Curator’s Comments:
This is an ‘Intriguing Landscape’! I really respond to the unique mixture of media- the photographic inclusions are beautifully married with the other hand worked materials, creating a clandestine or primordial landscape. There is an elemental quality that draws light from darkness; the brown articulated mass at the bottom has a muddy/ earthen grittiness suggesting deep excavation. I find the long sinuous shape protruding from the center to be inexplicable and mysterious. It seems to be reaching up from the underground/underworld space into an idyllic stormy sky. The heavenly blues and pinkish orange strata could be interpreted as hopeful or foreboding. It recalls “axis mundi”- a cosmic axis point, or mythological pole connecting two realms. I see galactic references in many of your other pieces- Nebulae in the Mind, Galaxies of Probabilities, etc. But I personally find the anchoring of the cosmic imagery to more ordinary topography only serves to highlight by contrast the glory of the immense celestial expanse.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
