Curator's Comments:

It’s interesting to see the “inspiration” of the pandemic creep into otherwise timeless pieces. Road to Raton recalls the open expense of the American Southwest, without the more muted tones associated with the landscape.  In this case the highly saturated blue sky functions as an ominous component of the work’s narrative. While I appreciated your statement accompanying the painting, it only served to confirm what I otherwise intuited from the sweeping sky, and mysteriously foreign elements. The emptiness of the space, devoid of human presence, along with the obstructed road, further add to the threatening trajectory of the storm.  Without overt references to the virus in the work, it serves as an allegorical picture of an invisible menace. I do hope this painting represents a new series, and you share more of your work with those of us seeking visual language for the inexplicable.
