Easy as Pie is a simply stunning piece.  I quite enjoy the opacity of the white crisscrossing center, while understated and restrained in terms of color, creates a bold graphic pattern.  The red edges of the white interior lines seem to float in and out of the grid, creating complex movement and design.  I also appreciate the red and multi-colored elements along the bowl’s dark edge adding additional visual interest, and an interruption in the expected black and white graphic components.  I believe the reference to “pie” also injects humor to the work, playing on humble utility and elevating it into the more treasured and permanent medium of glass.
