Portfolios: May 2012 Curator Reviewed Art, Stratum Series

Nice, i like the range of colors and how the blue color in front gives the feelings of a three dimensional painting
Curator’s Comment:
Your Stratum Series has a wonderful interplay between seemingly “accidental” marks and gestural descriptors. The dominant ladder form serves as a sort of axis mundi in the landscape, anchoring the amorphous ambiguity of light and texture. The overlapping ladder rungs also serve as an echo of the original, further emphasizing shifts in warm and cool space. I’m interested in the lighter biomorphic shape on the left, a little off center, as its lighter value creates a sensation of a central void. Most of your other paintings assert a more representational or committed reference to landscape, but I appreciate the abstraction and complexity of the semitransparent pools of organic color.
