Curator’s Comments:
The deep ochre and red hues of Martinus imbue this abstraction with intense warmth and mystery. The ambiguous organic shapes suggest figural embodiment, but then melt away into the surrounding abstraction. I’m particularly drawn to the eroded textures and patina along the edges of the red shapes, which appear to crackle with subtle energy. Reviewing your other paintings on the site, I remember admiring your airy piece Longing for Energy, with it’s squiggled linear spirals. Martinus shares this joyful expression in painterly spontaneity, but seems more grounded with its earthy color palette and opaque blocks of mid-range values. I wonder if the title intends to specifically reference the Roman god of far, or fertility. While the piece doesn’t appear to have a specific narrative, I can appreciate the pure elemental forces at play. As it was posted some time ago, I do hope you continue to add new work to the site.
