Curator’s Comments:

These non-objective paintings have an explosive exuberance, but seem to pull all the air out of the room! The passionate brushwork is intensely visceral, and haptic.  This particular image is my favorite in the grouping, as it seems to suspend some of the weight of the intense impastoed and scumbled surface with dark negative space in the bottom portion.  The directionality of the drips also implies the edge of a densely packed mass.  I especially like the complementary reddish orange, chartreuse and blue-violet triadic color arrangement, which brings some unexpected order to the passionate chaos.  The smaller vignettes of deep purple further suggest a build-up of tumbled and overlapping line, adding a slower sinuous quality to the energetic gestures.  It really is gorgeous.  The following image, 0001may signify a change-over to a different kind of buildup of space.  (This may be due to it being earlier work?) It has an airier composition of more pictorial marks, reminding me of map lines.  The high chroma color, while not quite as rich and lush as the previous image, has expansive qualities due to the white space and radiating lines.  It has a different rhythm, but the pulse could be viewed as more uplifting.
