Curator’s Comment:
The Ache Below Van Gogh’s Pleasure embraces an intriguing juxtaposition between image and language. The suggestive title of the work intimates a sure kind of primal/raw force that acts upon the individual, laying claim to a conceptual underpinning in the otherwise sporadic mark-making consuming the painting. The palette is an intense and almost incendiary riot of saturated color. But while an allover distribution of color would have in fact canceled itself out, the cluster of larger drips and radiating blue aura create an anchoring focal element or entity. It is this compositional confinement or restraint within the active paint splatter that also draws me in to the piece Sex Life of a Pod. The negative space in this work is even less active, providing a necessary respite to contemplate the sheer exuberance of the painterly process and resulting picture. This clustering of textural color becomes floral in part, an association encouraged by the minty green ground.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
