Curator’s Comments:
See the Music came up randomly on the site for me today. The boldness of the composition is underscored by the more painterly approach to the background space. The rich colors also appear to be layered- more scumbled than glazed, perhaps with some sgraffito lines. The contrasting orange and blue hues within the figurative head create an interesting tension and spatial instability, which is emphasized by the slight tilt in orientation. I’m hypnotically drawn to the central record “eye”, only to be pulled away by the value contrast in the articulated mouth/frown, and iconic skull. The notation that the piece is actually painted on a record cover adds an additional layer of interest, though it appears the original underlying image is completely obliterated by the new painting.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
