Curator’s Comments:
That Splendid Jar of Flies is a fascinating piece, abstracting the figurative form and conceptually utilizing fiber inclusions from your other pieces. While the pinkish standing figure is embryonic in its disproportionately large head and slight organic irregularity, I see it as more cerebral than corporeal with its cool hued surrounds. The haloed shape behind the head also highlights the mind in an intuitive rather than analytical sense. But on closer inspection, the dark shape in the figure’s hand appears to be a toy dog; suggesting a child instead of a mythical being. I also find myself speculating about the specificity of the small circular shapes, which echo the other halo shapes, but appear to form an arrangement of a central color palette. They could be purely directive, or symbolic of a cyclical movement, or attest to another aspect of identity altogether. (They could be a splendid jar of flies). Formally, I enjoy that the pale blue wash visually overtakes the edges of the assemblage elements, and unites them. There is mystery present, along with a pleasingly discordant familiarity.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
