Curator’s Comments:

Each time I come across your intricate drawings I’m pulled in to the multi-faceted visual stories. The Case of Misplaced Trust employs enjoyable archetypal figures and resonates with a sense of social familiarity. While this drawing was created in 2015 it arguably transmits even more today.  The shady character pulling back a curtain, and the gun wielding, trench coat wearing silhouettes seem rooted in current narratives. But just as they are drawn as sinister players, there’s a dreamy feel to their interactions.  The figure on the left begins to dissolve into the “noise” of the background, as they are being swept off their feet by the large white silhouette.  I find it interesting and ironic that his visual emptiness holds associations of danger; he is a ghost that whispers and can easily disappear. I admit I can’t identify the other figures in the piece. They don’t engage the main figures directly, and so I understand them as providing a community.  The ‘misplaced trust’ wasn’t offered in an intimate space- there were witnesses if not participants in the con.
