"Lily helped me get started. It was a simple trip down, and also a beautiful one. I was short of breath as I finally got back to the grasses. I looked back at Lily, panting. I didn’t understand how she had such energy. She gave me a shy yet outgoing smile, and I laughed, still panting. I could hear the calf let out gentle moans and calls. These whale creatures, the levian wraiths, under the water their echoed is that of a mystery to people like me. Here the call echoes through the thin air, adding to the ambient wind trademarked to this land. As we made it to the flat ground, Lily and I watched from the short distance. She took my arm and rested her head against on shoulder. Her soft, brown ears brushed against my cheek
“What do you think they’re waiting for?” I ask Lily, trying to find an answer within just those two.
“Waiting”? She giggled. “They’re playing.”
I knew that, but I wanted to know why they chose to have that time to kill. I looked to the mother, looking for the smile I knew was on her face. What could make someone happier than a moment with someone they love after all; A moment where they can watch them enjoy themselves, and be a part of that joy.
“Are they selfless creatures?” I asked.
“What do you mean?” Lily replied.
“I mean if there was danger, would they throw something under the bus to save their child, or help whatever was in danger?”
Lily paused, bringing a slight sadness to her smile.
“Out of every kind of creature I know of in this land, only one kind would risk everything to do what it could to help another. That is the Levian wraith, if that answers your question.”
I looked to the distance to see the calf slip from its mother. She followed him and I looked at Lily’s reaction. I only saw the reflection of the golden field in her sapphire eyes, but I know for a fact that she sees a deep meaning in the relationship between those two. That connection; that love; I could figure that she wishes everything here could be like their kind. Even the brothers protecting this place seemed just as selfish as ordinary people though."
