Curator’s Comments:

The Meeting caught my attention because I was unsure if the image was in the process of loading digitally, or was arrested in a frozen digitized state.  I like your caption ‘digital by accident’, as I’ve often thought some of the best work comes out of embracing accidental processes or paths.  While I see this same degree of organic abstraction present in several of your other works, this piece is interesting in the sense that it appears intentionally blurred or backed off from purely photographic representation, whereas the other pieces such as Basking or Morpheus embrace analog and gestural mark making. The Meeting presents as a portrait because of the familiar value pattern, and yet there is also an enigmatic quality to the shadows.  The viewers are asked to draw from memories of similar images to create a visual gestalt; forcing us to consider what we fail to see.  It is an intriguing work to contemplate as we hybridize digital and painterly media.
