Curator’s Comment:
The Morning Walk is a noteworthy painting in that the reflective colors in the asphalt almost eclipse the incredible and full green and yellow foliage. The extended blue-violet cast shadows on the ground lead me through the pictorial space, while the dappled pinkish hues lift up the otherwise ordinary path surface. The emptiness of the foreground nicely invites the viewer into the environment, where we are then lead down alternating winding lanes. The small figures walking dogs in the landscape do a lot to animate the scene, but also call attention to the scope of the natural splendor and scale of the space. While the painting likely represents a particular time and place, there is a universal quality to the idyllic park setting.
