Curator’s Comment:
This is a very interesting piece in terms of its reflective color and spatial qualities. The overarching, embracing warmth is counterbalanced by a rather chaotic organization of linear elements. The twisted and curled metallic ribbons appear fluid and yet simultaneously hard and unyielding. The orange-ish light emanates from behind the linear forms, creating a shadowy and enigmatic space, as the viewer can’t quite place their relationships to a ground. While scale of the work isn’t indicated, I see this image as environmental. The blurred objects in the foreground almost function in reverse atmospheric perspective, further keeping the viewer off kilter. I particularly respond to your works that have a less centralized focal emphasis, and asymmetrical arrangement of forms. Others reveal beautiful patinas on metal, (Such as Picture 682), making a case for elemental transmutation.
