Three Cousins is a unique and satisfying pumpkin panting. Each of three subjects eschews traditional color and shape of standard orange pumpkins, but creates an amusing formal dialogue.  I particularly enjoy the manner in which the stems on the larger forms lean in, and hover over their smaller “cousin”.  The shadows in the open valued composition describe the curvilinear nature of the objects, but also lend a sense of mystery and depth to the piece.  While the color palette is actually more subdued than many of your other intensely hued fruit and flower works, the painting offers dramatic engagement with the everyday subject.
