Curator’s Comment:
The quaint and faintly exotic market scenes you've posted enjoy a spontaneous, fluid quality that is often the hallmark of the water medium. But these peaches have a wondrous flux between solid fleshy fruit and ephemeral, misty memory of form. The simple still life is slightly offset horizontally, forming a subtle visual triad. I also like how the fruit seems to move in rotation from the sides, until the viewer confronts the stem portion head-on. The deeper indentation in the center gives entry into the form, and ultimately into the larger picture plane. The feathery, diluted edges create a hazy soft focus; again, causing the objects to recede as we visually move around their edges. There’s just enough here to give us everything.
