Curator’s Comments:
The multi-plate etching Top Heavy appeared randomly on the site, and I find myself engaged by its geometric forms and the complexity of pristine linear edges. The alternating low chroma warm and cool hues present as flat planes of space within a more expansive tectonic form. While the pieces don’t create the illusion of a dimensional construct, the compartmentalization of color broken up further by line evokes a blueprint. This geometric work seems like a unique image among your organic abstractions and landscape-oriented paintings. However, there is another untitled print that shares the same sort of brown and gray hues and rectangles, and I wonder if this is simply a different configuration of the same matrix shared by Top Heavy. These printed works are also unique in that they form free-floating entities within the picture plane, rather than fragments of patterns that extend beyond the border of the picture. I enjoy the diagonal tilt of Top Heavy, as it slightly destabilizes the predictability and visual weight of the graphic structure. Realizing it was created back in 2013, I do hope you continues to share your new prints, sculptures and paintings to the site.
