Curator’s Comments:
This presumably untitled bird painting is both delicate and bold. Viewing them perched in vaguely natural surroundings, though tightly cropped, has somewhat of the feeling of a classic Audubon print. Finely rendered in what could be slightly heightened local color, the duplicity of the pair also inserts a particular element of splendor. The palette could alternately be entirely true to the animals, reminding the viewer of the tropical and exotic in small wonders. But I also enjoy this piece in the series the most because it is comparably understated, as it excludes dramatic gesture or juxtaposition with natural trappings within the landscape. I don’t need anything more to appreciate their beauty, or the artist’s technical skill.
