Curator’s Comments:
Stand Still Thumbnail came up in a random image selection, and I was attracted to the shifting of tonal values. The circular form initially appears to be a solid mass, but there is an ephemeral quality to the outermost edges, creating a subtle spinning momentum. This rotating movement is reinforced by the two colors in the background, as they establish a horizon/ground relationship. I also appreciate the knotted textures and lines inside the ball. The opacity of the gesso runs counter to the metallic lines of graphite, again playing elemental contradictions against each other visually. I realize all of these works were posted some years back- I wonder if your practice has continued in this direction. I would love for you to post some new works on the site.
