Commonly named spiderwort, or widow's tears. The blossom center shown here is about a quarter of an inch across. The pistil is barely visible to the naked eye.

Tradescantia Virginiana (Spiderwort) is another wondrous image of the overlooked in the everyday plant world.  I find this flower series fascinating, as the vivid saturation and contrast seems to boost natural sight and sensitivity.  The interior of this particular specimen appears particularly exotic, as if viewing an underwater anemone.   The rich blue-violet hues also suggest feathered plumage; gorgeous iridescence sought in the natural world. Keeping the cluster of shapes slightly off center creates an interesting compositional dynamic, giving the stamen cluster room and space to reach towards an out of view light source. The depth of field also prioritizes the detailed striations in the blossom center, offering a hazy ground for contrast. The zoomed in magnification is also somewhat disorienting.  It takes a second or two for the viewer to contextualize the image, even amongst other beautiful flower heads.  I do hope you’ll continue to post more work on the site.
