Trains appeared randomly on the site today, and I appreciated its bold gestural qualities. The contrasting blue and yellow hues insert vibrancy into the smoky charcoal bands, adding visual variety to the steady, repeated rhythm of the design. While the dimensions of the drawing aren’t noted, I imagine the piece would function beautifully on a large scale. The title implies an architectural read of the abstract space, and makes me take note of the “double-railed” contours in each band. It’s interesting that several of these tracks don’t align. This visual disconnect adds a discordant note to the otherwise smooth and simple crisscrossing of space. It’s an elegant example of compositional push and pull, or order and chaos, within a piece.
