Curator’s Comments:

I find myself drawn into the dreamy, floating world of Transformation II, which shares the aquatic liquidity of your other photographic figurative works.  I’m wondering about the actual medium of this piece, as it has unusual veils of definition and focus. The saturated deep blue fabric on the left nicely balances the weight carried by the body as she is revealed in fractured parts on the right.  The spiraled patterns that appear to be painted on the subject’s arms add mystery, and suggest a Mehndi inspired henna design.  The closed eyes of the figure echo the flowing and restful lines of the fabric; both simulating in color and transparency a gossamer/sari fabric and water.  I feel the related work (apparently the first Transformation piece) has a very different mood and sense of urgency with the outstretched hand reaching towards the viewer.  Whereas the second work leads us into the softened space to a voyeuristic discovery of the model, the first work obscures more than it reveals.  They’re interesting works when viewed together, and I find myself wondering if there is in fact an embedded narrative sequence.
