Curator’s Comments:

I see the exuberance of Tropical Chill as twofold- the active organic shapes and graphic linear patterns amplify the saturated color palette. A corresponding fusion between warm and cool hues, the painting creates dynamic compositional movement. The repetition of clusters of hatched marks create some unity of form, but the allover directionality doesn’t provide any area of visual rest.  I think the piece functions best in a square format, as it abandons associations with portrait or landscape.  It looks as though there may be some impasto technique in the paint surface, but that can be difficult to detect on a computer monitor. I see the same looped shapes in many of your other works, but this image appears to have a greater visual density that extends to all four corners.  I realize it was posted some time ago, and wonder how this series has evolved.
