Curator’s Comments:
Your three diptychs that were posted several years ago remain elusive in their juxtapositions of modified text against simple shapes and colorful graphic backgrounds. Two Urgency holds my attention, as I’m intrigued by the “speaking bubble” icon, which interjects an opposing voice against the other frantic counterpoint, which visually communicates agitated urgency. The smaller bubble pattern behind the large “TWO” echoes the circular form of the foreground, while contrasting the splayed-out letters surrounding the red letters spelling out ‘urgency.’ While I can’t detect an explicit narrative in the piece, the idea of opposing voices representing an individual (or two) versus a crowd is implied. Aside from the conceptual underpinnings, there is a visceral pleasure one can take in these graphic works. I do hope you consider posting new works to the site.
