It reminds me of a controlled mirror-break (one that's been taped to prevent the bits of glass from getting everywhere).
Curator’s Comment:
This untitled piece has a strong directional sensibility, and so it makes sense among the series of other map oriented pieces you have on the site. The crossing East-West, North-South dividing bars provide a robust axis for the more nuanced textural or drawn marks. I especially appreciate the manipulation within the horizontal bar, slightly off kilter and broken up to slow down the speed of the visual path. It seems to be constructed form disparate elements, creating a sense of time and change. The further subdivided picture planes below the cross are elegant in their overlapped, understated color. The piece reminds me of a place, but I can’t quite pull to mind the associations of color and space. Perhaps there’s a red and blue pop infusion crossed with a hushed Diebenkorn. Whatever its origin or influence, it exerts a freshness and confidence because of color and composition- edges collide, but are cajoled back into the frame with mapped out lines and painterly surface.
