Curator’s Comments:
These robust and colorful works offer graphic engagement through their myriad of simple overlapping shapes. While the particular medium isn’t mentioned, they appear to be flatly painted, or composed with cut paper. I like the hierarchy of the large orange shape in this untitled piece, as it establishes spatial dominance and connects the contrasting pieces it overlaps. There’s also the sensation the orange element is attempting to cover the others, while they spill out of the attempted containment on all sides. That the compositions float in the center of more neutrally colored ground offers a feeling of visual buoyancy and resilience. I’m also attracted to the work given the title Bright Spot, which appears to hold more complex optical color relationships through an even more economic composition of shape. The added line provides formal direction and lightens the heavy visual weight of the organic forms. While this painting, like the other, looks to be non-objective, the specificity of stacking within the design conjures pleasing associations with still life and simple architectural construction.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
