This new untitled figure painting beautifully balances fleshy local color with expressive tones.  The emphasis on the reclining upper body and head sets the mood of the piece as languid and subdued. I appreciate the empty space of the paper on top, as the warm tint softens the contrast with the negative space. The openness of the brushstrokes also causes a subtle sensation that the figure is dissolving into his environment, or is shifting in time.  While the position of the body suggests sleep, there is much activity and intensity.  As all of your figure paintings are untitled, I imagine the content is primarily formal/academic.  However, the broad range between these latest paintings that provide loose anatomical structure and the more economical gestures is quite satisfying.
