Curator’s Comments:
I was happy to see your new piece posted yesterday, humorously titled I Really Hate the Beach. The fiery color scheme is pleasing to the eye, while the cooler blue and green shapes provide visual tension and relief. The edgy linear marks maintained in the oil pastels further supports a sensation of vibrating heat. I find it interesting the standing figure is engaged in some sort of activity with what appears to be a vertical pole, and is contrasted with the reclining figure lounging in the foreground. Both look as though they have absorbed the red heat of the unrelenting sky as they move through the landscape. Without the title, the viewer is presented with an arguably more idyllic scene. The use of raw, gestural color blocks could also imply a more primitive, or uncomplicated relationship with the earth.
