This questionably Untitled work….Forgotten Realm….Neanderthal…conjures ancient remnants or vestiges in its redolent subtitle. The predominantly ochre hues skillfully set up a unifying palette for the rough and scumbled surface. Perhaps due to the triggered clue of primitive peoples and the past in the adjacent text, the work evokes the erosion of a clay surface or stucco wall. Absent are the looser brushwork enjoyed in your other paintings on the site; this mixed media piece seems to trade off nimble and expressive gesture for poetically quiet mark making. I see a methodical process at work in the repeated linear striations and shifts in warm brown to green tones. While the larger blocks accentuated by slightly thicker lines don’t exactly translate as pattern, there is a pleasing visual rhythm set up through repetition of spatial intervals.
