Curator’s Comments:
Endless Summer delights the viewer with allover saturated color, and a surprising break into the broad color field. It’s as if a horizon line with people and a solar flare were added to a Rothko. I appreciate the placement of the darker horizon band just above the midway point of the composition, and the formal balance of visual weight between the sun and group of figures. The lighter break in the horizon just below the sun spot helps connect it to the piece, despite its yellow hue and pink hues being outliers in the overall palette. The red background essentially serves as a neutral ground in this somewhat economic piece. I find it a very satisfying work, and quite different from your handling of other imagery.
