Curator’s Comment:

The mystique of this piece for me lies in the contemporary sensuality of the model crossed with intimation of Post War pin-ups.  The ‘love affair with the camera’ makes this reference even more ironic and emblematic.  The technique used of manipulating digital imagery results in a smoothness that’s never slick.  The voluptuous model’s softness is only enhanced by the application of pigment over the print.  The close compression of the figures pose in the doorway and hardwood floor- with all of its solid idiosyncrasies- is a nice contrast to the idealized nude.  The converse sneakers and socks are a quirky peculiarity, as they don’t easily fit in the boudoir genre or classical academic nude tradition.  I can’t quite make out the subtle adornments on the models’ shoulder, which could possibly be a tattoo.  The crisscrossing marks duplicate the thin lines of her bracelets, and also act as minimal adornments.  I believe Camera Love Affair holds an interesting place in your portfolio, as it’s a textured depiction of an idealized model, whereas works like Pink and Old push the boundaries of the expanse between beauty and revulsion, respectively.
