Curator’s Comments:
I didn’t initially recognize Vortex Like as being part of your repertoire of airy figurative works. With a little longer viewing I started detecting visual connections between the manner in which the female face is distorted and fragmented, and combined into a dreamy, otherworldly space. The central swirling aperture becomes a strong secondary focal point to counterbalance the portrait. I also enjoy the overall warm color palette of the piece, which smoothly transitions from sepia tones to fleshy pink. The small sliver of brown contrasting shapes in the lower right also appears to exist as a reality behind the papery swirl, but as media isn’t indicated I’m not sure if I’m actually viewing a digitally enhanced collage. The date tells me this work was created some time ago, but I’m happy to have come across it today with fresh eyes. I agree with the comment made by Chrys Roboras when it was originally posted- it is a gorgeous piece.
