Curator’s Comments:
I came across the piece entitled Waitress today, and was struck by the saturated color and diagonal slat of the figure within the tightly cropped picture plane. The abstraction of her form and posture combined with the intense red hues project an angry or indignant persona. However, the notation that she is part of a Boudoir series suggests a carnal heat rather than ire. With longer viewing I recognize the choppy brushstrokes in her costume contribute to her animation as much as the gestural lines in the background. I also appreciate the hot pink highlights on her face, which travel down her extended arm. The figure ultimately appears to exist in public space rather than a private boudoir, but the space is intimate as it brings the viewer in close, and from below. It’s a provocative presentation of a female form.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
