Curator’s Comments:

At first glance I thought this untitled sculpture resembled fruit cut into sections- I wondered if this was too simple of a reading as a Pop Art piece until I came across the similar work you posted where you describe the sliced objects as lemons!  No doubt the refractive quality of laminated glass adds richness and depth to the simple forms.  The yellow-green opposition to the dull brown “skin” and thin whitish rind is both descriptive and visually engaging. Realizing these were posted several years ago, I still would be interested to know the scale. Smaller objects might have a surreal quality that shifts viewers’ expectations gradually, whereas large versions elevate the mundane, and imbue the lemons and limes with an Oldenburg-esque humor. I quite enjoy the high chroma yellow interior of the lemon arrangement, but the configuration of this work is most interesting because of the ambiguity and suggested monumentality. I hope you’re still making these types of sculptures, and update your work on the site.
