Curator’s Comment:
Jack thoroughly celebrates the spirit of the season. For a direct and straightforward tale of horror, it’s quite refined and polished when it comes to surface manipulation and color. The overall organic modeling in the background subtly moves into the figure with more articulated contrast. It’s as if the undulated configurations in the light wash coalesce in the shirt and grinning pock- marked pumpkin head. I especially like the chromatic orange shifts in the rotting (pumpkin) flesh in contrast to the silver glint of the axe and iconic blue-gray overalls. The red/green bottom section and orange/pale blue top form a classic color tetrad- whether consciously conceived or not. Even the twisted vine topping off the ‘portrait’ echoes the grotesquely beautiful color and texture throughout the piece. This really is a treat for the eyes.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
