Lily and I stood under the tree as she began to get comfortable. I sat with her, looking at the far end of the field.
I saw, though the light was grey, a beautiful scene. Lily closed her eyes a moment and rested her head on my shoulder, as the levian wraiths echoed with their moans. The moment was beautiful, yet I felt sadness. I had begun to think about the people and possibilities I had left behind. I was still in a bit of shock, but somehow was gaining clarity in my mind as I watched the deep-green grasses ripple in the wind. I knew that those feelings of sorrow would catch up with me. For some reason however, I didn’t see anything wrong with that. Just as surprising, I had a clear expectation that those feelings would be more helpful in the long run, so long as I felt them. For some reason, I felt hope in a scenario I would normally expect to feel hopeless in.
My thoughts were interrupted by the squeal of a levian wraith as it rushed towards Lily and I, startling us from behind. Lily lifted her head. A levian wraith calf had approached us. The flying whale had a constant smile, as if mimicking a playful child. The strange creature had four eyes as well.
I noticed the sky start to darken, and rain began to pick up. Lily looked at me, her hands holding mine.
“We should probably go back into the woods,” She said. “I wish we didn’t have to rush this, but I wanted you to talk to a levian wraith, and the young ones are usually the least shy and most charming.”
I looked at the gloomy sky, and then saw the field as more colorful and lush. The grasses made beautiful, emerald ripples in the wind, and a warm character sat next to me. I soon found myself wondering why I wanted to be morbid when the place I sat was beautiful and comforting despite the dark sky. I looked at the young levian wraith, as it pleasantly reflected the green and blue of the field, absorbing the grey.
