Curator’s Comment:
Strings Attached strikes me as rather funny in a slightly perverse manner. I see the stylized imagery as decidedly comic in style, but in no way is the piece a one-liner. The imagery is complex, and folds in on itself with numerous figures engaged in a multifaceted narrative. Rather than engaging in nefarious manipulation, the puppet master- with the inexplicable c*** head protruding from his larger face’s chin- appears conceding to another’s will. The appearance of the smaller faces within the mouth of the giant head is also curious. They are questionably observers more than participants in the strange endeavor enfolding. Formally, the softened tints of pink and blue set up the smaller bursts of primary color at the point of contact with and including the puppet figures themselves. I also like the smoother, less conflicting organic works such as The Touch and Evolving. But the edgier style in this piece is fitting for the subject, and holds my attention as I contemplate the schadenfreude of the hapless puppets with string attached.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
