Curator’s Comments:
These ink drawings present abstracted figurations suggestive of Rorschach images. It’s difficult not to imagine landscape within the organic modulation and sweeping washes of pigment. I’m most drawn to the Winter series, because of the delicacy of the lacy marks. There is an ebb and flow to the rising of the clusters of shapes that is at once peaceful and exhilarating. This particular work (designated 15) has a top edge evocative of a fading or dissolving horizon. The splayed out thin lines from the bleed of the wash also conjure crystalline formations occurring in winter snow. I also enjoy the use of negative space in this work, which seems carefully considered. The white space towards the top is enveloped by the black hatching, which appears to draw momentum from both sides of the picture plane. Elongated as a rectangle, the large actual scale of the piece no doubt accelerates the feeling of horizontal movement.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
