Winter Morning Rhythms driftwood
Comment
This is a very nice piece. It is very calming and peaceful. I love the colors. Great work!
Curator’s Comment:
I enjoy this piece because it alternately seems fleeting and gestural, and yet is also highly representational. The scumbled white pigment across the cool blue hues in the uppermost sky area carries a good amount of weight. This visual suspicion creates am ambiance of rolling clouds while simultaneously breaking down into pure gestural abstraction. I also appreciate how the horizon line sits slightly below the central axis- contributing to the feeling of big sky. The textured foreground rolls the waves up to the edge of the picture plane- and the viewer’s feet. Again, thick impasto simulates solid ground. The illuminated horizon fades into the distance with a skillfully muted pink. The piece doesn’t give way to overly saturated sun hues often associated with sunrise & set, but the gleaming white of daybreak.
