Curator’s Comments:
A compellingly constructed still life, Turps and Other Things to Work With toys with the solidity of form and space. I enjoy the creamy tints accentuated by the contrasting darker slivers of blue/brown and violet. The pastel color palette and compartmentalization is somewhat reminiscent to me of Richard Diebenkorn’s abstractions, but with sharper tectonic edges and broken up abstraction of geometric elements. The angular shapes successfully move the eye around the piece in a circular manner, drifting towards the center occasionally to grapple with the more complex configurations. While the darker shapes carry the majority of the visual weight in the piece, I also appreciate the painterly brushstrokes within the larger sections. The newer adjacent image, Work Shoes and other implements appears to be composed in the same vein, but is loose and more gestural in its sensibility.
From NY to the U.K., the most comprehensive and respected source for income & exhibition opportunities.
