Yucca Flowers is a lovely, picturesque study of white on near-white.  The texture of the open, dried flower pods in the foreground crisply contrast the tinted ground.  I like the watery blue sky fading into the pinkish white sand, visually defusing the warm-cool fluctuations in hue temperature.  The result is a neutralizing stillness that embodies the dormancy of growth and delicacy of natural cycles.  To counter, the long stalk of pods does provide a certain amount of strength, as does the small tuft of a green grassy plant breaking through the center of the picture plane. The slight elongation of the image also creates equilibrium between the horizontal striations in the landscape, to suggest progressive layers of growth and renewal.
