I have sailed a multitude of nautical miles. From this experience I have learned that human beings are insignificant in relationship to nature. Those of us who experience nature’s indomitable wind force respect it’s potential for generating clean sustainable power.

I scrolled across Zephyr recently, and was drawn into the gorgeous rendering. While scale and media aren’t identified on the piece, it looks to me like (powdered) graphite. The ethereal, smoky elements beautifully complement the higher contrast figures, and soften the piece. The swirling textural ground supports the figure in motion, and elevates the upward compositional movement of the blown bubbles. The visual connection that this goddess/creator of the wind is a current version of mythological zephyrs enhances the reading of the work’s narrative content. The figure’s contemporary attire and pinwheels ground the work in our own personal experience with wind and natural forces, rather than push it into a romanticized relationship between women and nature. I am particularly appreciative of your accompanying remarks about sustainability and power. Together, your words and image are transformative.
