Cathedral by Christopher Kennedy, photo luminism

"Curator’s Comments: I came across the piece entitled Cathedral on the site today, and thought the shimmering arcs of light were exquisitely rendered in glowing color.  The razor-thin linear tracings of light band together to create deft…"

Capturing Light as an Art

Posted on December 26, 2011 at 1:30pm 0 Comments

I've had a fascination with colored light ever since I was tiny. Growing up in England we had delicious chocolates called Quality Street. Each one was individually wrapped, often in brightly colored cellophane. I used to have so much fun holding those up to my eye. That fascination has now become a passion. I photograph static points of colored light. My intention is to illustrate light in a form it's not seen by the human eye. To show others what it can be. To freeze a few 3D moments in…

Hi Chris,
Thank you for taking time to visit my website and especially for reading my profile. I am red/green colorblind and would love to know what the world really looks like in full color. Unfortunately any colors with red (pinks, purples, oranges) or green (lime green, olive green, grass green) doesn't look to me the way they do to the rest of the world. I don't know how to explain it except I know the color by the particular shade of brown, gray, or yellow that an object appears. I suppose I've just compensated all my life. That being said, I do have trouble with color casts that may appear in photos and, yes, I do feel like I'm missing a lot, especially when I see fireworks as yellows and blues and everyone else can see green, pink, red, orange. Still, the world offers such a rich variety of textures, shades, shapes, and, yes, colors, that I get a sense of reference from being in nature.

I am extremely interested in the techniques you use to create your wonderful work and do hope you will post more. I've just recently joined this website but isn't it a wonderful way to exchange ideas and see what other artists are doing? I look forward to keeping in contact and learning more about your art. Please do let me know more about your techniques.

All best regards,
