Gesture is what interests me. Body language is beguiling. Gesture naturally conveys movement but can also be passive or submissive, playful or seductive, regal and proud. Gesture can tell a story.

I come from a background in fashion photography in which “gesture” is the essential element, and so it is naturally infused in my ceramic sculptures. Most of my work is figurative, but sometimes I stray into abstract biomorphic territory. The smooth elegant lines of a shell may inspire a sculpture that can be perceived as an intricately constructed couture dress…parading proudly. Even vessels with roots in organic matter take on an expressive human quality. I delight in this ambiguity, this duality, and this transformation.
