Jocelyn Braxton Armstrong's Gallery

Gesture is what interests me. Body language is beguiling. Gesture naturally conveys movement but can also be passive or submissive, playful or seductive, regal and proud. Gesture can tell a story.

I come from a background in fashion photography in which “gesture” is the essential element, and so it is naturally infused in my ceramic sculptures. Most of my work is figurative, but sometimes I stray into abstract biomorphic territory. The smooth elegant lines of a shell may inspire a sculpture that can be perceived as an intricately constructed couture dress…parading proudly. Even vessels with roots in organic matter take on an expressive human quality. I delight in this ambiguity, this duality, and this transformation.

this is such a moving, sensual/powerful body of work.  the positioning of your figures are exquisite, message strong, cohesive, yummy and anguish together at times
