When people see my work, I would like them to be moved by the experience.
I love landscapes because they are of the earth. My paintings are of magical
places that I am privileged to be close to, when visiting or living there. As a
painter my medium is oils. I love the fluidity of the oil paint and the way it stays
wet long enough to make changes I desire.
When painting I am reminded that these pigments are from inside the earth and
I am using them to help make a connection to the earth. I work with oil paint using
values, colours and marks to bring light to the landscapes I experience. I use brushes,
because I like the way they hold the pigment and touch the canvas.
I begin a painting by loosely adding colour onto the surface, then pushing the paint
around with a series of marks that relate to the subject. I know a painting is
complete when this marks become the subject and express the feeling I wish to
The painting now has a life of its own. When this happens, I have taken the pursuit
as far as I can. When I finish a painting, I am filled with a sense of gratitude.
My aim is to make more work that is meaningful for me and others.
