[Jinsu Du]

Activities, Awards and Exhibitions

 

In these years I have kept busy with much: drawing comics, horseback riding, travelling the world and beyond.  My artwork has been published over a thousand times in magazines and newspapers inside and outside of China, and my comics have won awards such as the Beijing News and China News Awards.  On horseback, I have traversed many famous mountain ranges; travelling, I have visited half of the world.  Nonetheless, I feel ever strongly that my calling rests in the arts—in this I have dedicated great ardor and zeal.  The San Francisco International ArtExpo, Sausalito Art Festival in California, Washington University in USA and Venice, Italy, were events that exhibited my work.  Around 2004, my inspiration was blocked due to confusion about many things, and questions to which I could not find answers.  I spent the years after that travelling the world, to Middle and North America, Europe and Africa.  In each place that I went, I would admire the characteristic artwork.  The ancients said it right: “Walk ten thousand miles, read ten thousand books.”  Through my years of travelling and reflection, my thinking has become emergently clearer, and I have reentered into the creative phase.  The issue that concerns me most now is the conflict of modernization and the fate of humanity.  My preferred art mediums are oil paints, glue and newspaper.

• 1995 – present  News cartoonist, Art editor and Graphic designer for Beijing Children Weekly and Beijing Youth Daily; Specially invited artist for many Chinese and international magazines, newspaper, TV program and website(e.g. website: German and Chinese Culture  www.cn-de.net )
