Dan,
I like the piece but if I were to suggest something it would be to let us feel the wind around the lady...debris, turbulence ?? Also the base of funnel somehow looks ...off balance? Thanks for sharing a work in progress.

Hi Dan,
for me there are three equal focal points in a triangle, is that what you're going for?
Thanks for sharing, Sara
the components in this feel a little stiff; Especially for a hurricane. There is not much you could do to adjust the figure's pose, however you have left a great deal of room to add contrast. That being said, there's a lot you could add. Possibly:
make more violent ripples in the woman's shirt following the current of the wind, really dig into the sky with intense values, add textures to the land like dust in the wind to show how the land is agitated by the storm...
I feel that most important is that everything revolves around the funnel, and so there should be something, be it texture, movement, or lighting, that unifies the entire scene around that vortex. I feel what is lacking is that element; the power of the storm unifying and balancing every component in the scene in some sort of chaos
