Curator’s Comments:
This monotype entitled Rojo caught my attention with its dynamic color and movement. The overlay of inks with different levels of transparency and viscosity demonstrate a satisfying shifting of the standard figure-ground relationship. The red blocks also provide rhythm through repetition. The adjacent piece, perhaps entitled Greenspace (sic) is treated in a similar manner- the small rectangular inset of more saturated color creates an interesting tension within the larger field of the same muted hues. In some ways, it reminds me of a magnifier, or enhancer of a subject, even though the corresponding imagery doesn’t perfectly align. The red and green complementary colors nicely shift in value, and intensity. I also enjoy the abstract ladder shapes, which direct movement through the piece. These works were printed some time ago- I would love to see your new work.
