Curator’s Comments:
Blowing came up arbitrarily on the site this morning, and I was taken in by its light, breezy palette and wispy brushstrokes. The scale of the piece isn’t indicated, and I could see it either as a small intimate painting, or very large gestural work. The disbursement of linear marks against the lemon-lime color field are erratic enough to lend visual interest, while still offering a visual harmony. I also appreciate the decision to trail some of the brushwork off the peripheral edges of the piece, while containing the majority of strokes within the confines of the square. It’s another aesthetic decision that keeps a dynamic tension, and unexpected arrangement in the works.
